Welcome back Worldview Wellness followers!
It’s certainly been a while since we put any content out, but now that things have somewhat settled down for us, it’s time to get back to the grind and bring some wholesome educational content to those of you seeking to optimize your health and wellness.
Today’s podcast is on a topic near and dear to our hearts, and can be summed up as a strategy for life that will optimize your health, wellness, and emotional/spiritual outlook. Simply stated, it is to “Do God things, not man things”.
We head in many different directions about what that means, but as always I’ll put the readers digest version here. The original quote as I heard it came from my old supervising physician, Dr. Ben Edwards. He was and is famous for saying “Eat God foods, not man foods”. This is great advice for anyone wanting to improve their health, but I feel like it is short of the target when it comes to a better understanding or worldview considering the implications of our modern surroundings. It’s not just about what we eat, but also everything else in our environment. It’s what we eat, wear, listen to, and use in our daily environments. It is everything, and with a little knowledge we can manicure our personal environments, significantly affecting the trajectory of our lives and our ability to enjoy them through our health.
We start by discussing the diet and the magnus opum of Weston A. Price, the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. This book is nothing short of the quintessential book on functional nutrition and what we as humans need for optimal health. It discusses the extreme innate intelligence of our ancestors in regards to a healthy diet, the vital role of dietary fats in the nutrition of the human frame, and what happens to our health when they are absent; a fact that was apparent as early as the very first part of the 1900’s. It also covers the role of processed foods, mainly processed carbohydrates as the vandals of health they truly are and what happens when a perfectly healthy human being eats them regularly in the diet. Spoiler alert! It isn’t good.
We then move on to discuss the role of the corporate/commercial agriculture system in the deterioration of health of the inhabitants of the (post)modern first world. This corrupt “for profit” mechanism has led to the absolute destruction of the soil through the copious use of synthetic chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and desiccants which “kill” the soil. In large part, the foods we eat come from the health of this living soil, which has been absolutely decimated by modern agriculture techniques, including the above and further made worse by monocropping, a practice that encourages the growing and harvesting of only one crop on a given piece of land, year after year, without change. A practice that our fore-fathers would have seen as abhorrent, since every good farmer that lived 100 years ago knew that you needed to encourage good soil by doing crop rotations on a schedule and having off-season cover crops to facilitate persistently elevated nutrient levels and growth of the symbiotic organisms alive in living soil. We also discuss the harm of GMO’s, and specific chemicals such as glyphosate and atrazine and how they disrupt health.
Finally, we move on the the subject of other “man things” we should avoid in our environment and how they damage health. These are things like EMF’s (electro-magnetic frequencies), plastics including where they come from and the chemicals they contain which are not compatible with human health, and the toxic home landscape of common commercial household products.
I hope that you have a good listen, and again welcome back!
